Who Wants to Barter?

Anyone out there want to barter? I can offer marketing services in return for something you specialize in, I can especially use some help in home decorating!

This post is in response to the Daily Prompt: Barter System

I am not sure how well I would survive in a society based on barter. I think that people who can offer physical services as well as those who offer items of necessity i.e. food, shelter, clothing, etc. would fare the best.

That being said, I have thought often as a freelance marketer to offer services for barter with some people that I know, especially those that can help get me healthier!

I know a guy who opened a new gym for personal training…I thought of asking him to barter marketing support in return for personal training sessions. I have an acquaintance that started her own practice that matches mindfulness with nutritional eating…again, I have thought of reaching out and asking her to barter. Each time I chicken out.

I wish Weight Watchers would barter!

Do you barter services? How do you approach people?

Small Changes, Big Results

small changes

Change a little; improve a lot…that is my motto right now.

I am trying to add one new, small habit each week in the hopes of improving some aspects of me.

So, in response to today’s Daily Prompt: BYOB(ookworm)  if I was to write a book, the book jacket would look something like this:

Small Changes, Big Results is an international best seller. After spending a year making small changes to her daily routine, the author, known as SS, saw great improvements in her health and happiness.

Starting from a place of happy, but not all that healthy, SS decided to focus on eating right and moving more. She strictly followed the Weight Watchers program and incorporated exercise slowly, but regularly into her day.

Also recognizing the necessity to declutter and organize her life, SS focused on improving ‘one corner at a time’. This goal was quickly achieved by incorporating easy to accomplish tasks into her daily and weekly routine.

High on SS’s to do list was improving her personal relationships as well at the world that surrounds her. With a little research and advanced planning, paired with tiny adjustments to her schedule, SS found ways to spend more quality time with the ones she loved doing fun and exciting things. She also carved out time monthly to volunteer on projects to help improve her community.

Small changes are not difficult…you can do it too! Join us on a journey to becoming the best you, you can be. You…the same…only better!

PSA of the Day…small changes can create big results.

I Like to Keep it Spicy

The spicier, the better! Wait, what? I’m talking about food!

Just because I am eating healthier doesn’t mean I don’t want it to taste great!

I’ve also learned that I love smoky flavors, especially chipotle. We make two sauces we love on tacos or as a dipping sauce for veggies. Continue reading

Focus List of Ten

focus list of ten

The new me – same as the old me – just the best me that I can be!

I am challenging myself to focus on the ten things listed below that are important to me and can use a little improvement.

Some I have started already, others will become more of a focus in the coming weeks.

I am happy being me and living my particular life. I am grateful for all that I have…because I have a lot! But that doesn’t mean I don’t need improvement. Everyone needs improvement, because no one is perfect. (I apologize if you are perfect…I do not mean to offend anyone!)

Here is my Focus List of Ten:

#1- Weight Loss (Food): Taking accountability for what I eat and improve my daily diet. I am on Weight Watchers and have committed to tracking every little bite that goes into my mouth!

#2- Weight Loss (Activity): I have committed to moving more every single day.

#3- Organize: Many aspects of my life are organized, but my physical and electronic spaces are disasters in great need of attention. I am working slowly to make necessary improvements (one corner of my life at a time)!

#4- Learning: There are so many things I want to learn…the world is such an interesting place. Right now I am focusing on learning to blog, but there are many other items on the list to learn!

#5- Relationships: Strong friend and family relationships are so important to our happiness, so I want to maintain and grow my current relationship and maybe even create some new ones. I love being part of a community and I am starting to feel part of the blogging community.

#6- Giving Back: I make donations often, but I don’t give enough of my time and energy to improving my world.

#7- Mindfulness: I would like to start to meditate and do yoga.

#8- Fun Stuff: I don’t want to let daily life get in the way of fun stuff. I want to do more fun stuff!!!

#9- Stepping Out of my Comfort Zone: I want to step out of my comfort zone more often. I don’t think that means daily, but maybe weekly.

#10- Decorating: This one freaks me out. I can’t even admit out loud how long we have lived in our home without painting or hanging a picture. I know many of you love this, but for me it is a fear much higher on the list than public speaking!

What are you focusing on improving? Any tips you can provide to help with my improvements are greatly appreciated!

PSA of the Day…Make a list to focus on and then focus on that list!

Slash and Burn – Calories, that is

Eat less move more

It is time to slash and burn my calories! I am excited to recommit to my weight loss journey and I look forward to a more active spring and summer and beyond!

The only way I am going lose weight is by cutting the number of calories I eat and burning more than I have been with my recent coach potato ways!

I can’t even count the number of times I have joined Weight Watchers in the past. The last time I joined was in September 2013 when I hit my heaviest weight ever! I have been going to meetings on and off ever since. I have been paying all along, but like a gym membership, just because you pay doesn’t mean you benefit.

BTW, my gym membership is also being paid for, but not used!

I had lost 38 lbs, but gained 23 of them back.  Right now I am down 15.6 and have a long way to go until hitting my goal.

In the past week I have started tracking (food journaling) everything I eat and have started moving a little bit more.

My goal is to lose something every week. I know some weeks will be better than others, but I need to start and keep forward motion.

I am hoping to not only look and feel better, but to also be healthier and more energized.

What tricks do you have for eating less and moving more?

We Can See the Floor!!!

corner 2 before

My husband announced last night with glee that we can finally see the floor in our study!

This is the first time this is true since we moved in…and I am not admitting to how long ago that was. I am so excited that we are going to get to use this room soon as it has basically been a storage facility!

Last week I decluttered the first corner and now the second corner is complete!

corner 2 after

I wish I had taken a before picture that showed the mess behind the red chair, but sadly I didn’t. There was a mess back there! Now I still have a bunch of pictures, frames and mirrors that will be hung in the Fall when we fully decorate this room (and others), but other than that it is cleared out!

Two more corners – two more weeks – and the room will be done decluttering! Yippie!!!

To manage this project I collected about one bag of garbage and one bag of items to be donated. Everything else found its proper home somewhere else!

I am so excited!  What tricks do you have for decluttering?

No More Couch Potato

Rainbow chase exercise

Each week I am challenging myself to make small improvements.

This week I am vowing to end my couch potato ways and become more active. I am going to start slowly and work my way up.

Through Weight Watchers I had purchased an ActiveLink activity monitor. It is a fancy pedometer, but not as fancy as a FitBit, which I hope to upgrade to soon.

My goal is to be active EVERY day. This week I want to earn one activity point every day.  That does not mean 7 points this week…it means a minimum of one point every, single day. Next week two points per day and so on until I reach four points per day.

I then want to maintain the four points per day through the summer.

For those of you not familiar with Weight Watchers, activity points are earned after a baseline of movement happens, so basically, not being a couch potato.  Then you earn activity points for burning somewhere between 50 – 100 additional calories.  It is hard to translate exactly, but at least it is measurable.

I am going to start with a slow walk daily this week.

What do you do to get yourself moving?

Update on past challenges:

On 4/15/15, I challenged myself to track (food journal) everything I ate. I have tracked every day since…even when I ate the 16 point Nutella Pizza!

On 4/13/15, I challenged myself to declutter one corner at a time. One corner is complete and the second is in progress.  I will report more on this tomorrow.

On 4/8/15, I challenged myself to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day.  I have managed to accomplish this every day since then except for one, which was yesterday (4/19).  I spent most of the day in the car and after the second emergency bathroom pit stop I decided the challenge wasn’t fitting in with my day’s plan. I did still manage to drink five 8-ounce glasses because I didn’t give up the goal completely.

PSA of the Day… A little exercise goes a long way!

What goals have you set for yourself?
